A survey of insurance brokers/dealer executives attending the 1994 International Assn of Financial Planning Broker/Dealer Conference revealed that variable universal life insurance (VUL) and variable life insurance (VL) currently are hot products. However, sales of VUL and VL represented only 4%-6% of total sales; mutual funds were the leading product, accounting for between 40%-60% of brokers/dealers' sales, followed by variable annuities that accounted for between 20%-25% of sales.
