Debate on Mitchell bill set to begin. (George Mitchell's health care reform bill)

The Senate is to begin debate of Majority Leader George Mitchell's health care reform bill on Aug 9, 1994. Pres Clinton said that he would likely sign the bill if it does not raise the deficit and if it provides universal coverage. Congressional observers say that Mitchell's choice not to impose an employer mandate to pay for universal coverage until at least 2002 for the House version may make the bill's passage there unlikely.
