A bipartisan group of Senators is hoping to present a series of amendments to Majority Leader George Mitchell's healthcare reform plan rather than develop an alternative bill. The moderate to conservative senators believe that the Mitchell bill does not address the nation's deficit and is much too expensive. Issues that concern the senators include cost containment, improved access to affordable healthcare and insurance reform. Meanwhile, the Senate continues to vote on the Mitchell bill and various amendments.
