Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida will oppose a state subsidy for 11 community health purchasing alliances (CHPA). The state legislature will consider renewing the $3 million subsidy for 1995, but Florida businesses claim the $275,000 for start-up costs for each CHPA amounts to a public subsidy for an alternative channel for health insurance. The subsidy comes to about $120 for each of the CHPA's 25,000 members.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida is expected to join the state business community in opposing renewal of a $3 million state subsidy for Florida's 11 community health purchasing alliances during the 1995 legislative session slated to convene in Tallahassee on March 7.
