John Hancock Variable Life Insurance Co is introducing a new variable universal life insurance (VUL) contract called Medallion VL alongside an updated version of its old variable whole life insurance (VWL) contract, Flex V. Currently, VUL represents 10% of the life insurer's total variable life insurance (VL) sales, but John Hancock Life Marketing-Sr Consultant Paul Schechter forecasts that Medallion VL will boost VUL's share of total VL sales to 30% by 1996. The new VWL product is a hybrid that has variable premiums while guaranteeing the death benefit.
John Hancock Variable Life Ins. Co. believes that marketing variable universal life insurance alongside variable whole life insurance is not only doable, but desirable.
