Applying common sense.(Fortis Benefits Insurance Co. study on disability insurance is valuable)(Editorial)

National Underwriter Life & Health-Financial Services Edition, February, 1996

A Fortis Benefits Insurance Co. study, conducted in collaboration with the Gallup Organization and a Menninger Clinic unit, seems to provide valuable psychological and demographic findings on disability claimants' behavior when they are off the job. The study found that those people who return to work quickly are less likely to consider themselves victims, tend to educate themselves about their conditions, demonstrate willpower, and are generally younger and more proactive in their approach towards recovery than those who are slower to return.

Look to your customers is a dictum that is widely preached but one which seems to be less widely followed by the business. Thus, it is refreshing to see a major player in a major market decide to do just that.
