Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New York, has begun selling a point-of-service product, The Guardian/PHCS Point-of-Service Plan, to California employers with two or more employees.

Guardian is selling the plan through outside brokers as well as its own agents.

The plan combines health maintenance organization coverage with an option that permits members to obtain some reimbursement for out-of-network care.

Private Healthcare Services, Waltham, will manage the network. Guardian said 18,000 doctors and 208 hospitals have already signed up.
