Weiss says 34 Insurers May Face Race Suits.(Brief Article)

MetLife Inc. and Prudential Insurance Company have joined a growing list of life insurers facing suits over allegations of race-based pricing and marketing.

Suits against Met, New York, in the U.S. District Court in New York and against Prudential, Newark, N.J., in the U.S. District Court in Newark, accuse the companies of continuing to profit from past discrimination.

Met also faces allegations that it contributed to discrimination at other companies by publishing race-based actuarial tables.

The law firms that brought the suits are seeking class-action status, and may be preparing more complaints.
