IEA PREDICTS IRAN WILL BECOME MAJOR GAS SUPPLIER TO EU

The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted that the IslamicRepublic of Iran will be a major gas supplier to the EU in the future, Tehran Timesreports.Fatih Birol, IEA's chief economist, said Russia and Iran togetherpossess 52 percent of the world's gas reserves, "Iran will be a major gas supplierin the future," stressed Birol who is the main author of the 530-pagestudy.
The energy expert said that an existing gas pipeline between Iran andTurkey can be extended to Europe. The study forecasts that net imports of gasin the EU will expand from the current 44 percent to 81 percent of totalgas supply in 2030.
