COMPANIES - COMPETITION TAKES OFF FOR NEW RUSSIAN REGIONAL JET

The Russian Aviation and Space Agency is considering proposals from the Sukhoi, Tupolev, and Myasishchev aircraft companies to develop a new, short-range regional aircraft to rejuvenate domestic carriers' aging fleets, "The Moscow Times" reported on 5 November. The state will provide 3.8 billion rubles ($120 million) of financing over 10 years to develop a 50- to 95-seat aircraft with a range of up to 4,000 kilometers and a price tag of $25 million.Industry analysts told "Vedomosti" on 4 November that state support will cover only 15- 20 percent of development costs.
