BECHTEL WINS FIRST TENDER TO RECONSTRUCT IRAQ

According to Al-Hayat newspaper (April 21, 2003), The US Agency for International Development has recently awarded a contract for reconstructing Iraq to the American Bechtel Group. Bechtel's contract initially was approved for $34.6 million. The Iraq contract covers rehabilitation of the power, water and sewage systems; rehabilitation or repair of airport facilities; and dredging, repair and upgrading of the Umm Qasr seaport in cooperation with other contractors. Bechtel also may have a role in repairing and reconstructing hospitals, schools, selected government ministry buildings, irrigation facilities and transportation links.
