WHO URGING IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW STANDARDS FOR PEDIATRIC GROWTH
Info-Prod Research (Middle East), May, 2006
According to "Bahrain Tribune", the World Health Organization (WHO) has asked all member countries to scrap their "flawed" pediatric growth chart (PGC) and replace them with 'revised' ones. Confirming this, a Ministry of Health spokesperson said that they have received the WHO guidelines and had been advised about the new standards.
This comes soon after the World Health Organization (WHO) admitted, for the first time, that the PGC, to advise mothers about their baby's ideal weight, was flawed and that they have now rectified the error. She admitted that due to the obviously faulty chart, mothers were apparently wrongly told that their babies were underweight, a directive which led to overfeeding of the newborn, making them obese and prone to heart diseases later in life.
