MILLIONAIRE DJILALI MEHRI BUILDS 36 HOTELS

According to El-Khabar newspaper (May 29, 2006), the Mehri Group, a private business entity owned by millionaire Djilali Mehri, announced that it would build 36 hotel properties in Algeria. The prominent Algerian businessman said that Mehri will contribute 40% of the required money for this project while the French hotel chain, Accor, will contribute another 40% and the World Bank 20%.

Accor had formed a joint venture with the Mehri Group specifically to build hotels in Algeria. The two companies are to start work on eight hotels before this year end. The first two properties one of them a 160-room Novotel seem likely to be built in the northeastern city of Constantine.
