AsiaInfo Services 10-26-2001 Sanyo to Sell Magnetron Technology to Chinese Firm GUANZHOU, Oct 26, 2001 (AsiaPort via COMTEX) -- Sanyo Electric Co Ltd will cease production of magnetron tubes, a key component of microwave ovens, and sell related technology and facilities to China's GD Midea Holdings Co for 2.35 billion yen (US$20 million). The Chinese firm will transfer Sanyo's manufacturing facilities for magnetron tubes in Kasai, Hyogo Prefecture, to its own plant in Shunde, Guangdong Province, and begin production in late December. The company aims for an annual output capacity of 5 mln magnetron tubes by the second half of next year and plans to expand output in the future with further investment.
