AsiaInfo Services 03-19-2002 Qualcomm Boosts Unicom's CDMA-GSM Roaming CHINA, Mar 19, 2002 (AsiaPort via COMTEX) -- U.S. CDMA technology pioneer Qualcomm said on Mar.12 it has delivered new software to China Unicom that will allow the Chinese mobile operator to add value to its GSM-CDMA roaming service using Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) cards. Qualcomm said its R-UIM/UIM Toolkit (UTK) system software will make roaming between GSM and CDMA networks easier by downloading Preferred Roaming Lists (PRLs) via SMS, allowing operators like China Unicom to update terminals over the air as roaming agreements evolve.
