SMIC TO COMPLETE 12'' SILICON WAFER PLANTS IN SHANGHAI AND BEIJING

AsiaInfo Services 04-09-2003 SMIC to Complete 12'' Silicon Wafer Plants in Shanghai and Beijing CHINA, Apr 09, 2003 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- According to Taiwan-based media, Zhang Rujing, president of SMIC-Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, said on March 24 that the company's 12'' silicon chip plant in Shanghai will be completed in December 2003 ahead of schedule, which is the first 12'' silicon chip plant of China.

Currently, China's silicon chips of 0.18 micro and below are underproduction. SMIC is moving to 0.13 micro chip making. Zhang Rujing added the company's No.4 and No.5 plants will be completed and put into production by the end of this year, producing 8'' and 12'' silicon chips and DRAM respectively.
