AsiaInfo Services 08-12-2003 China Unicom's U-Map Faces Cold Shoulders CHINA, Aug 12, 2003 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- On July 22, 2003, China Unicom launched the positioning service called U-Map. However, service providers are less aggressive toward the new service just like the story of China Unicom's CDMA. U-Map has operated in three major cities of mainland China Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, providing positioning and navigation services for mobile phones users.
China Unicom is the first telecom carrier of mainland China running positioning business. Still, it has a long way to go before it spreads the U-Map across the country. Those service provider are not interested in positioning sector, instead, they are focusing on the short message businesses....
