INTEL TRIES FOR CHINA'S WAPI STANDARD

AsiaInfo Services 04-19-2004 Intel Tries for China's WAPI Standard XI'AN, Apr 19, 2004 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- John Antone, vice president of Intel's Asia Pacific region, discloses that Intel hopes to end the WLAN (wireless local area network) standard fight with China as soon as possible, after a number of China-based companies have won China's compulsory WAPI (Wireless Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure) certificates. "We wants to get a solution before the deadline of June 1, 2004," said John Antone.

"We are negotiating with China's government about the WAPI standard." China's government has asserted that any WLAN product without China's compulsory WAPI certificate will be prohibited from importing and selling in China since the deadline. China...
