AsiaInfo Services 09-13-2004 UTStarcom Signs PHS Handset Deal with China Telecom CHINA, Sep 13, 2004 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- UTStarcom, Inc. (UTSI), a leading PHS handset maker, announced on September 8 that it hadsigned a PHS handset contract worth approximately USD 41 million with China Telecom Corporation (CTC), the largest fixedphone carrier in China. UTSI has put 4 new models of PHS handsets into market since thebeginning of 2004 and plans to launch 20 low- and high-end in the whole year. Simon Le, vice president in charge of sales, says that UTStarcom predicts that the overall PHS handset users in China will reach 65-70 million by the end of 2004 and believes that the global PHS revenue will be approximately USD 1.8 -2.0 billion for 2005.
