AsiaInfo Services 03-29-2005 China Unicom to Withdraw from Paging Industry CHINA, Mar 29, 2005 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- China Unicom, one of the largest mobile operators in China, has already submitted an applicationof withdrawing from paging industry to China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII), according to the person who is familiar with this affair. Investigation reveals there are few consumers in the paging market at present, most of which are stock traders and China Unicom's internal users.
Meanwhile, it is more expensive to usepagers than to use mobile phones now. For example, it takes theconsumers who use Personal Handyphone System about CNY10 each month, while the monthly charges of a pager is about CNY20 at least. It is reported MII approved...
