AsiaInfo Services 07-01-2005 China Unicom Likely to Adopt Homegrown 3G Standard BEIJING, Jul 01, 2005 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- After the Chinese government issues widely-expected 3G operation licenses, China Unicom will probably have no alternative but to adopt homegrown 3G standard TD-CDMA, CDMA Development Group chairman Perry LaForge was quoted as saying.China Unicom, a major mobile carrier in the country, is in possession of the largest CDMA network in the world, and it also takes the second place among CDMA operators by user base on the globe.Moreover, the Chinese government will create 3G network based on three standards, TD-SCDMA of China, WCDMA of Europe and CDMA of the US.
