AsiaInfo Services 09-07-2005 Google Launches Trial Local Search Site in China BEIJING, Sep 07, 2005 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- The global IT giant Google Inc. has launched a trial local search site along with Beijing-based Mapabc.com. The site will provide users with online information, including names of local companies, maps and homepages, according to a Mapabc executive.
Mapabc will mainly offer web-based mapping services. Newly-listed Baidu.com (NASDAQ: BIDU) is the main competitor of Google in the nation's online search market. Another IT giant Yahoo! Inc has also joint hands with Alibaba.com to aggressively capture its share in the local search market.
