AsiaInfo Services 03-09-2006 Mitsubishi Leaving Chinese Mobile Phone Market SHANGHAI, Mar 09, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Mitsubishi Electric Corp. is retreating from the Chinese mobile phone market. The Japanese company is withdrawing investment from and closing its branches in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, as well as the plant in Hangzhou. Its mobile phones, once popular among Chinese customers for their fashionable styles and new functions, have seen a shrinking market share in China.

The price for its M800 mobile phone plummeted to CNY 1,500 this February, from the earlier CNY 3,000. The business has come into a difficult period in China, complained a Mitsubishi Executive. Now, distributors of Mitsubishi cellphones are cleaning their stock. ...
