AsiaInfo Services 03-29-2006 SMIC to Produce Solar Cell and Panel SHANGHAI, Mar 29, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), a Shanghai-headquartered IC foundry, said it would make solar cells and solar panels with reclaimed silicon to expand revenue sources starting from April. SMIC spokesperson Reiko Chang said most of the technologies for manufacturing the cell and panel are very much similar with those for chip production. She further estimated that the new business was expected to have an annual production capacity of 10 megawatts in the initial stage. The solar cell and panel is priced at USD 3 to USD 4 per watt, which indicates the new business will bring the company additional USD 30 million to USD 40...
