CREDIT SUISSE: CHINA MAY RAISE INTEREST RATE IN ONE MONTH

AsiaInfo Services 07-17-2006 Credit Suisse: China May Raise Interest Rate in One Month BEIJING, Jul 17, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- The possibility of a further increase in the benchmark interest rate in China in the coming month is considerable big, Credit Suisse forecasted, if GDP in the second quarter grows faster than the first quarter Tao Dong, chief economic analyst of Credit Suisse Asia, predicts that China's GDP in Q2 would likely increase as high as 10.7%.
The figure in the first quarter was 10.3%. Mr. Tao estimates that the People's Bank of China will add 27 basic points if the central bank raises the benchmark interest rate. He stresses that the slightly interest rate increasing will just be a warning signal but give little impact on the economy....
