INTEL TO LAUNCH LOW-PRICE LAPTOPS INTO CHINESE MARKET

AsiaInfo Services 11-16-2006 Intel to Launch Low-Price Laptops into Chinese Market BEIJING, Nov 16, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Mark Beckford, general manager of the Emerging Markets Platforms Group (EMPG) of Intel, said that Intel planned to launch laptops of below USD 400 into Chinese market. In fact, Intel had designed laptops of USD 100.
However, according to the cost analysis, many basic functions of the computer had to be omitted. Therefore, Intel designed the laptops of below USD 300, USD 400 and USD 500 for the emerging markets. Compared with the USD 100 laptops of its strongest rival AMD, the price of Intel's USD 300 laptops is higher but the sale is much better. Price is not the only factor for low-price laptops.
