AsiaInfo Services 12-08-2006 China TV Makers Ally to Counter against FCC BEIJING, Dec 08, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates that it will impose patent royalty on imported digital TV (DTV) from March 1, 2007. The patent royalty, if calculated at USD 20 to USD 30 for one TV set, will be a total of about USD 1 billion a year, which is several times higher than the total profit of merely CNY 3 billion or USD 400 million in the country's DTV industry. Data from China Video Industry Association (CVIA) shows that the profit rate for China's color TV makers is merely 1.7%.
