AsiaInfo Services 12-27-2006 Starbucks Encounters Strong Rival in China Market SHANGHAI, Dec 27, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Starbucks, the famous US coffee brand, has encountered a strong rival in expanding its China business. Costa, a brand name of coffee under Whitbread Group originating in Britain, opened its first store in China in Nanjing Street of Shanghai on December 22, 2006 and will sweep across China with great efforts. Costa, founded by two Italian brothers Sergio Costa and Bruno Costa in London in 1971, has decided to open two more stores in Shanghai and no less than 300 stores over China in a couple of years based on specific conditions.
