AsiaInfo Services 02-16-2007 China Netcom Likely to Buy GSM Networks of China Unicom SHANGHAI, Feb 16, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- China Netcom, one of the nation's leading telecoms carriers, will not build up its own TD-SCDMA networks but to buy the GSM networks of the mobile telecoms giant China Unicom. The Ministry of Information Industry of China is said to issue 3G licenses in the second quarter or the third quarter of this year. Still, China's mobile phones based on the homegrown standard TD-SCDMA are still imperfect due to their overheating aptness and high power consumption.
