CHINA UNICOM TO EXPAND GPRS NETWORK NATIONWIDE

AsiaInfo Services 05-23-2007 China Unicom to Expand GPRS Network Nationwide BEIJING, May 23, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- China Unicom (SEHK: 0762), the second largest mobile telecom operator in the country, is set to carry out a sweeping expansion of General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network nationwide in order to cover all the prefecture-level cities, revealed a person access to the information. So far, the company's GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network has turned to be the 2.5G GPRS network,which can provide large-scale services for 70 first-tier citiesin the country.
However, the mobile phone operator wants its GPRS network to cover about 300 cities rather than only 70 ones. Informed person disclosed the expansion is expected to start...
