AsiaInfo Services 11-21-2007 China Steel Export via Shanghai Slows Down SHANGHAI, Nov 21, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- China's export of steel via the Port of Shanghai reached 8.488 million tons in the first ten months of 2007, soaring 33.4% year on year, but 37.6 percentage points lower than the growth a year earlier, said Shanghai Customs. The export value of those steel stood at USD 7.86 billion, surging 65.8% but 1.2 percentage points lower than that of a year earlier. The slowdown in the country's export of steel via the Shanghai Port shows that its macro-control policy, including the canceled export rebate tax and enlarged export duty, has begun play a significant role in curbing the country's too-strong momentum in steel export.
