AsiaInfo Services 06-04-2009 China to Fight Cell Phone Fraud with Real Name Registration BEIJING, Jun 04, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Public Security (MPS), and State Council Information Office (SCIO) have jointly worked out a rule for mobile phone-focused real name registration, which is pending approval from the State Council, the nation's cabinet. Chinese cell phone users have been frequently bothered by spam short messages, some of which aim to bluff them for money.
By the end of April 2009, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department had uncovered 468 telephone fraud cases, captured illicit money of CNY 2.45 million, and frozen capital of CNY 9.4 million. ...
