Chile: Procter & Gamble tightens competition for diapers market.
South American Business Information, March, 1999
Procter & Gamble's acquisition of a 100% stake in the Chilean diapers producer Prosan allowed it to tighten competition with Kimberly Clark and Unilever Chile, which formed an alliance to distribute diapers in the country. Procter & Gamble will invest US$200,000 to replace Prosan's Babysan brand for Pampers due to strategical reasons. Procter & Gamble holds a 57% share of the Chilean diapers market. Its sales rose 5% last year. The company aims to jump from the 10th to the 5th position in the Chilean consumer goods market, which will demand investments of US$100mil.
