Brazil: General Motors to reach exports of US$1bil.

General Motors' Brazilian subsidiary predicts to reach US$1bil exports this year, up from US$780mil in 1997. It will lift exports to traditional markets like Chile, Colombia and Venezuela and enter new markets also. It will sell Corsa engines and gears to Mexico as of the 2nd semester of 1999. Besides, it will export to Germany's Opel and China. General Motors will speed up its plan of increasing the number of parts produced in Brazil. The Astra model will have its local production rate increased from the current 65% to 80% by the year 2000, while the new car that will be produced in Gravatai, State of Rio Grande do Sul will have around 60% of its parts produced locally.
