Brazil: Philips launches Aeon telephone.

PCC (Philips Consumer Communications), that ended a joint venture with Lucent Technologies in mobile telephone, decided to set up a telephone equipment plant and is launching in Brazil the Aeon telephone model, imported from Mexico. PCC wants to develop a model similar to the Genie in its local plant to start up operations in the 2nd half of 2000. Also PCC announced a partnership with the cellular operator Telemig Celular to distribute the Aeon model in pre paid services, involving 50,000 equipment in 1999. This is the first Brazilian partnership of PCC, that is actively negotiating other deals, aiming to increase its 5% share in the domestic telephones market to 15% within one year.
