Brazil: Rolls Royce to invest US$20mil in airplane engines repair shop.

South American Business Information, June, 1999

Until next September, Motores Rolls Royce (MRR), Rolls Royce's Brazilian subsidiary, will start building a new airplane engines repair shop at the Guarulhos international airport in Sao Paulo. The new plant will demand investments of US$20mil, being scheduled to start up until the end of next year. MRR will repair at the plant the V2500 engines that will equip the 38 Airbus 320 airplanes ordered by TAM airlines last year, with options for 37 units more. In order to adapt to the V2500 engines, MRR will invest US$8mil this year. Besides TAM, MRR's new facility will also serve LanChile and Taca (El Salvador). MRR predicts to generate gross sales of US$50mil this year, up from US$40mil in 1998. It aims to reach US$100mil until 2002.
