Brazil: New telephone operators sign WLL technology contracts.

The new fixed telephone companies that will compete with Telefonica, Telemar, Tele Centro Sul, and with the long distance carrier Embratel began to sign the contracts to acquire WLL technology. Canbra signed contracts with Nortel and Ericsson; Bonari is negotiating with possible suppliers; Megatel is preparing its infrastructure. On the other hand telecom companies already privatized would also use WLL technology to service to small and far away municipalities, such as Telefonica that will set up 600,000 WLL terminals in the Sao Paulo interior. Telemarthat plans 500,000 terminals and Tele Centro Sul are negotiating quotations.
