Brazil: Observers believe Deutsche Telekom may move into Intelig.

South American Business Information, October, 1999

Market observers believe Deutsche Telekom is the likely company to acquire the 25% stake held by Sprint into the long distance carrier Intelig. Sprint, after its merge with MCI, will have to pull out of Intelig, since MCI has a 100% control in the also long distance carrier Embratel, a position contrary to the Brazilian anti trust regulations. Alternatively, National Grid and France Telecom may firm the control into Intelig. On the other hand, as France Telecom has 25% in Sprint, it may be not able to firm the position in Intelig.
