Brazil: car makers get ready for Y2K bug.

Volkswagen spent US$21mil in Brazil in order to overcome the Y2K bug problem. General Motors spent US$16mil in that, while Fiat invested US$6.5mil and Ford, US$3.5mil. Volkswagen's project included the development of a e-commerce network (Net 2000) with suppliers. Of the car maker's 5,000 suppliers, 9 are not ready yet for the Y2K bug in Brazil. Ford replaced its old computer systems for IBM's. Ford believes that nearly 4% of its suppliers are not prepared for the Y2K bug yet. General Motors replaced some 500 computers. Three of its suppliers are not ready yet. Three of Fiat's suppliers are also unable to deal withthe bug, so far.
