Brazil: Increasing exports of motorbikes.

The Brazilian motorbikes industry is preparing an exporting leap in 2000, and already registered in 1999 a 51,8% increase on exports. By 2000 domestic sales & exports should reach 500,000 units according to estimates from motorbikes industry association Abraciclo. Production is increasing over the last years from 54,450 units in 1992 to 461,000 in 1998, with assemblers balancing the 1999 drop on internal sales with growing exports. Honda, that leads the domestic market with 92,8%, is investing US$30mil in 1999 and US$30mil in 2000 to modernize its plants and keep up competition with the 10 motorbike brands produced locally.
