Brazil: ISPs to monitor telecom services.

Around Brazilian 300 ISPs are creating an information network aiming to monitor the performance of telecoms that are acquiring stakes in free Internet service providers, as is the case of Telemar, and Telecentro Sul, that acquired shares in iG; Telefonica that has a stake in ZAZ and Terra networks; Portugal Telecom that acquired shares in ZipNet. The goal is to secure fair competition in Internet services, since there are several complaints from ISPs associated to Abranet regarding priviledges granted by telecoms to associated companies. A recent survey by AT Kearney consultants showed that operations involving Internet (data communications) account for 8% - 9% of the Brazilian telecoms income, a percent to grow fast up to 50%.
