Brazil: Siemens eyes mobile communications market.

The major Brazilian fixed telephone equipment producer Siemens may invest US$50mil in three years equipment and facilities to produce cellular telephones in its plant in Manaus, State of Amazonas. Until 2005, the new C Band shall generate a US$10bil turnover, and with the new products, Siemens shall have a turnover of R$2bil. Today, the cellular services respond for 40% of the telephony in Brazil. In 1990, Siemens group began to produce equipment to be used in GSM system, that is not used in Brazil. With the new C Band, the company can enter in theBrazilian mobile market, but is waiting the decision of Anatel, the Brazilian telecommunications agency, related to the frequency to beused.
