Brazil: Samsung to invest US$500mil.

Samsung will invest US$500mil in its Brazilian subsidiary over the next three years so as to expand its businesses both in Brazil and within Mercosur, and to launch new products as well. The local subsidiary is to increase its exports by 30% in 2000. The Brazilian plant will supply the Latin American market. Samsung's Brazilian subsidiary will also begin to produce color computer monitor tubes. Since 1996, Samsung invested US$300mil in Brazil. Last year, Samsung had a turnover of US$249.65mil, and this year the company expects to double that amount by selling 1mil computer monitors. Regarding the telecommunications industry, the company wants to double its CDMA cellular phones production capacity.
