Brazil: Volkswagen uses natural gas as alternative energy source.

South American Business Information, March, 2000

Volkswagen started using natural gas as an alternative energy source to fire industrial equipment at the Taubate, Vale do Paraiba and Sao Bernardo do Campo plants, all situated in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. At present the Taubate-based plant consumes 33,000 m3 of gas, while the Sao Bernardo do Campo one consumes 24,000 m3 - the 2 plants are supplied by Comgas. In order to introduce natural gas into its plants, the company spent R$8mil. The move will help it save R$2mil per year. Volkswagen will also spend R$11mil to set up an exhaust system at the Taubate plant until the end of this year.
