Argentina: TPI to move in the local market.

TPI (Telefonica Publicidad e Informacion) a subsidiary of Telefonica (Spain) plans to expand its business to Argentina and Peru, hand to hand with the local subsidiaries of Telefonica that also have directory publishing activities. TPI has set up a subsidiary in Brazil in 1999, and also is negotiating to acquire Publiguias in Chile. In Argentina through the subsidiary Telinver, Telefonica controls the directory Paginas Doradas (yellow pages). TPI wants to explore markets where telephone books and Internet users have prospects for fast growth. TPI had in 1999 and overall turnover of US$288mil from printed guides andUS$5mil from the online business.
