Brazil: Telecom Italia invests in wireless portal.

The telecomunnications company Telecom Italia will compete for a new frequency fore mobile telephone communications in Brazil. Telecom operates in the south of the country through TIM Celular Sul (states of Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul); in the Northeast region through TIM/Tele Nordeste (states of Pernambuco, Paraiba, Rio Grande doNorte, Ceara, Piaui and Maranhao) and through Maxitel in Minas Gerais, Bahia and Sergipe states. With investments of US$100mil TIM Celular Nordeste and TIM Celular Sul will create the wireless portal TIMnet.com, which will allow internet access through cellular phones.
