Argentina: Negotiations between Clarin and Globo to associate in.

The Clar=EDn Group, together with the Brazilian company, Organiza=87oes Globo, and Telecom Italia, are negotiating the merger of Argentinean and Brazilian cable television companies. The conversations, begun 6 months ago, indicate a business which will go beyond a simple sale of 50% of Multicanal (the second biggest cable company in the local market) shares to Globo Cabo, the Brazilian cable TV division. An off-the-record source said that a television mega-operator is planned, joining the Clar=EDn and Globo operations in this business, and integrating Telecom Italia. Each multimedia company will bring its network assets, and the Italians will participate as investment and strategic partners to start up new business.
