Peru: BellSouth signed interconnection contract with Telefonica.

BellSouth signed an agreement with Telefonica del Peru concerning cable telephony interconnection. The contract has already been submitted to Osiptel's approval. The 2 companies have agreed on an interconecction fee of US$0.01732 per minute (local cable to cable calls during the day) for the area where BellSouth operates (Lima and Callao). The competition for the local cable telephony will help the government achieve its goal of having 20 telephone lines per 100 inhabitants by the year 2003. BellSouth also agreed with Telefonica Moviles' cellular fee of US$0.207 per minute.
