Chile: Repsol YPF to acquire 100% stake in Lipigas.

Repsol YPF acquired last month a 45% stake in the Chilean gas distribution holding Lipigas for US$170mil. The deal, made with the Yaconi Santa Cruz group, included a call option for a 100% stake in Lipigas by 2003. Repsol YPF aims to consolidate its operations in the local LPG market. Lipigas sells nearly 400,000 tons of LPG in Chile through the Enagas, Codigas, Lipigas and Agrogas subsidiaries, holding 40% of the national market. The Chilean LPG demand is estimated at 1mil tons
