Venezuela: AT&T, Telefonica and Telecom Italia are interested in.

The Venezuelan national telecoms agency Conatel informed that AT&T, Telefonica and Telecom Italia are interested in entering into the local cable telephony market after Cantv's monopoly is over on November 27, 2000. The agency also claimed that cable television operators Veninfotel and Intercable are also interested in bidding for one of the 5 regions the will be offered at auction. Veninfotel, which operates in 11 cities and has 1mil clients, will form an alliance with American investors. Conatel will also auction for a 3rd national cellular telephony concession within the 1st half (Jan-June) of 2001. Telecom Italia requested authorization from Conatel to acquire Digitel, Venezuela's 3rd major cellular operator with more than 100,000 clients.
